HOWDY FOLKS!

News

THE IRONWEEDS AND SWAMPWEEDS:

Ironweed will be whoopin and hollerin’ as they head down the road to some great gigs! From Jimmy Martin to Hazel Dickens, you can expect a bucketful of tunes about trains, moonshine, dirt, heartaches, pigs, corn and girls named Sophronie…coming to a festival, party or venue near you.

The Swampweed Cajun Band will be heading down that same road with TRADITIONAL, FOOT-STOMPIN, ACCORDION SQUEEZED, FRENCH HOWLIN’  MUSIC FROM THE CAJUN SWAMPS. Only the finest in Cajun Dancehall music!

Howdy Friends!

We hope you are enjoying the final days of summer filled with toe tappin’ music, family gatherings, and sittin’ beneath a lazy, weepin’ willow tree…

Ironweed Bluegrass Band, Swampweed Cajun Band and Dierik and Jane have some great tunes and events planned for the fall.

Check out our updated schedule page!

We also have private parties and weddings planned (not listed, don’t figure Sally and Earl want all of you showin’ up at their wedding without enough moonshine to go around)…so, as you check in for bookings, always send an e-mail our way for availability dates. <info@ironweedbluegrassband.com> 573 673-8477

On a sad note….

The Ironweed Bluegrass Band extends our heart to Diana Jayne and family as we sadly say goodbye to Mitch…bass player and emcee for the Dillards, humorist and writer of books and songs. Mitch passed on August 2nd, 2010.

Mitch Jayne was a highly esteemed and valuable friend to Ironweed. Mitch sent us to the recording studio managed by Rodney Dillard in the Ozarks and wrote the liner notes on our first CD. He spent many hours with us late into the night, telling us his tales with grand intentions of making sure we knew the many details of bluegrass history as he lived it with the Dillards.

It was “Mitch’s and Diana’s Kitchen” radio show on KOPN 89.5 that was given over to “Ms. Ida Jane” as they departed to live in the Ozarks once again.

We will miss him deeply but feel a grateful warmth knowing he has left us with great music and stories of the intensely wonderful people and culture of the Ozarks. Thank-you Mitch for your endless, neighborly hospitality and for taking Ironweed under your wing…

Mitch

..the Ironweed details…

With meandering roots from the Missouri Ozarks all the way to Tubingen, Germany, Ironweed continues to bring you only the finest in bluegrass, vintage country and good ol’ hillbilly twang.

The band features champion, Kelly Jones on fiddle, master Joe Wieneman on mandolin and harmony vocals, Jane Accurso on guitar and lead vocals, Dierik Leonhard on banjo and vocals and Alan Loshbaugh on upright bass. We have a lot of menu choices on our “Shows and Services” page so please take time to check it out.

Ironweed is available for festivals, weddings, concerts, private parties, corporate parties, sidewalk gigs, parades, dances and just about any sort of celebration you’re itchin’ to do. You can contact us at info@ironweedbluegrassband.com for fee estimates and as always, Ironweed tries to stay budget friendly. Please take time to look through our website pages and send us a note with any comments or questions.

Thank-you for your support over the past fourteen years and we  continue to look forward to seeing all of you, as Flatt and Scruggs would say, “A Hundred Years from Now.” Kindly yours, The Weeds

… and there’s more….

Ironweed has an evil twin..Swampweed, a Cajun Dancehall band… Swampweed features Ehren Oncken on Cajun button accordion and that ornery Jimmy Joe Culbertson on drums, triangle and washboard. Lots of lively dance tunes honoring the Balfa brothers, Dennis McGee, Canray Fontenot, Amede Ardoin, Cheese Reed and many others. Vocals are in Cajun French. For photos of the Swampweeds, check out our “Meet the Bands” page.

and on a final note…

A note of distinction: In April of 2007, Ironweed was selected from a review of several bands to travel to Laoshan, China, our sister city, and represent Columbia and Mid-Missouri. The band did a two-week performance tour in August of 2007 through the Shandong Province appearing on national television and having the highest honor of playing music with Daoist monks in their monastery on Mt. Laoshan. For photos of this amazing journey of performances and access to the blog please go to: http://ironweedbluegrassband.blogspot.com http://www.flickr.com/photos/ironweedbluegrass

  • Welcome, friends!

IRONWEED (veronia noveboracensis) is a wildflower that blooms late in the summer. It has a small purple flower at the top, and a strong, iron-like stem. It’s a wild, tough flower but many argue it as a weed with a deep root and hard to get rid of. It’s real pretty and you’ll find it all over Boone County and beyond. Oh, and did we mention..the cows just won’t go near it.

IRONWEED (pickum singum excellentis) is a BLUEGRASS BAND from Columbia, Missouri formed in 1994. Some folks around here say there are strong similarities between the band and the wildflower. The IRONWEED BLUEGRASS BAND has developed a long, strong suit of hard-drivin' traditional and non-traditional bluegrass tunes. And when the folks want to dance, they can play some nice waltzes and two-steps, too. Their pickin' is awfully good -- and some will tell you that the singing is even better. This is a band to see, hear, and enjoy -- live!
