Ironweed Bluegrass Band

Ironweed Bluegrass Band

This is our most recent CD which we quickly recorded in Jake’s studio and took to China. New Weeds features multi-instrumentalist, Jake Clayton, Alan Loshbaugh on bass, Dierik Leonhard on banjo and vocals and Jane Accurso on guitar and lead vocals. The above photo is us with the Daoist Monk musicians we had the honor of visiting and playing music with in their monastery on Mt. Laoshan, Shandong Province.

Nice words from nice folks:

“Jane’s voice and songs capture the true heart of old time mountain music, and you can hear the wind blowing through the Ozarks in their music. Respectful of history without being too precious about it, these folks are the real deal.”  Jason Ringenberg of Jason and the Scorchers/Farmer Jason-Cowpunk pioneer, Singer, Farmer..www.jasonringenberg.com

“Fun, Fresh, Friskie…Jane’s voice will steal your heart!”  Sutu Forte.. Julliard Graduate, Performance Artist Extraordinaire..     www.moulinmusique.com

“The Ironweed Bluegrass Band…wow!..heard them at a New Year’s Eve Festival..and they had the place a bouncin’…Check ‘em out..Great Band!!!!!”    Al Berard.. Cajun Fiddler, Grammy Nominated Finalist   www.alberard.com

Liner notes from our earlier  album, Boy Trouble/Girl Trouble:

“My interest in this album began one summer night several years ago when four friends gathered in our back yard for an impromptu concert. My wife, Diana, has one of the most experienced bluegrass ears I know of, and I am one of the Dillards. Our guests needed an opinion. They didn’t have a name, but they had something more important - then enthusiasm that turns individual musicians into a unit.

Jane Accurso is a woman whose voice was so striking and her feelings for a song so deep that she might have written every song they played that night. It became the lead instrument and then IRONWEED wove a clever band around it.”…Mitch Jayne

  • Welcome, friends!

IRONWEED (veronia noveboracensis) is a wildflower that blooms late in the summer. It has a small purple flower at the top, and a strong, iron-like stem. It’s a wild, tough flower but many argue it as a weed with a deep root and hard to get rid of. It’s real pretty and you’ll find it all over Boone County and beyond. Oh, and did we mention..the cows just won’t go near it.

IRONWEED (pickum singum excellentis) is a BLUEGRASS BAND from Columbia, Missouri formed in 1994. Some folks around here say there are strong similarities between the band and the wildflower. The IRONWEED BLUEGRASS BAND has developed a long, strong suit of hard-drivin' traditional and non-traditional bluegrass tunes. And when the folks want to dance, they can play some nice waltzes and two-steps, too. Their pickin' is awfully good -- and some will tell you that the singing is even better. This is a band to see, hear, and enjoy -- live!
